A History of Phoenix
Once upon a time, there were two girls who dreamed of starting something new in the Percy Jackson fandom. Something that hadn't been done before. So, they decided to create an awards site. After much discussion and debate, they finally settled on FanMortals: The Veritas Awards. The official website was born on February 16, 2010. (I realize that FanMortals: The Phoenix Awards is a mouthful of a name, so feel free to shorten it to Phoenix or FM. Most just call it FM.)
Well, FM was very successful. So much so, that the girls got overwhelmed, and enlisted two of their friends to help. Well, those two friends didn't do much of anything, so they were still swamped. Eventually they got the help of judges, and that helped some. But these two girls quickly got bored of FanMortals, affectionately known as FM, and eventually left it to decay. One of those girls was me. Well, many months after that, I got interested in it again, but I knew I would have to do it without my partner-in-crime Storm's help.
Now, FanMortals: The Veritas Awards has been renamed to the Phoenix Awards, because I'm not really associated with the Veritas anymore. And hopefully this will grow into all the promise it began with. And when I get bored of this again, I will hand it off to someone who will be willing to take over, not leave it to die.

How does Phoenix work?
It's pretty simple!
There are two rounds, summer and winter. Sometime in early May or November, depending on the round, I will post a notice saying that FM is in need of some judges and open the judging application forms. When every category has a judge, nominations begin in June or December. During the nomination period, you are free to nominate whatever stories you feel are deserving to have an award. However - and this is new - only twelve stories will be accepted into the nominations per category. It is up to the judge to decide which twelve they will pick.
Nominations close in late July or January, and we go into the voting period. The voting period lasts for two weeks. After that, I tell my graphic specialists who the winners are so they can begin to make the graphics ahead of time. When they're done with a majority of the stories, I post the winners. And then everyone can relax until the next round. :)

Phoenix's E-mail List
Back when Phoenix was on Webs, they had an option for their site's users to become a member of that site. Members could then be updated on what was happening around the site. Well, I decided that using that option for Webs when we were on Weebly was tiresome, considering some of those members weren't even active anymore. So, I decided to compile an e-mail list that I could use for the current site.
Being on the e-mail list means that you get electronic reminders about things like nomination, voting, and judging. We also let people know who the winners are. If you were a part of the Webs e-mail list, it is exactly like that.
If you would like to join Phoenix's e-mail list, just fill out the form below. :)
